Blog to Book to Goodbye

I'm thinking about hanging up the ol' blog. Actually deleting it. Now that my kids are older I feel less like I have ownership of the things that are happening to them. I don't want to compromise any of that and though this has never been a blog 100% about the kids, I find my life heading in other directions.

I'd like to put forth some more posting on the hobby/cooking blog. Do things that will be helpful or useful to people without annoying my family. And I still like getting products for review...I AM the target demographic, so I think I have useful things to say.

Blogging hasn't jumped the shark, but for me, writing and reading the diary-like entries I used to devour every morning with my coffee...it's just changed, I guess.

In the meantime, I would like to save these archives before I delete them off the face of the blogosphere. A personal record for my own enjoyment later. There are things I would have already forgotten had I not blogged about them.

Does anyone know of a service that you've heard good things about that will turn your blog into read actual pages without costing a fortune?

And this isn't the last post...but it's close to it.
Love you all.

It seems that a lot of people are hanging up their blog hat. I'll be sorry to see you go, but I know with the popularity of Facebook and Twitter, and that all of us have kids that are getting older... it's just time.

I'll miss ya!

Sure would miss your blog... but I do get to see your smiling face on FB from time to time so that makes me happy!

I've seen something somewhere about a service that will print blogs into books, but can't remember where I read about it or anything else. I'll let you know if I come across it again.

You've been making noises about this for a while, so it's not really a surprise, but it's still sad. No more Birthday Month!

I'll miss you here, but see you on Facebook (occasionally - I'm just not there very often)!

I just did a blog post about the rise and fall of blogging. Sad but things change.

You suck! I hate it when bloggers leave. It sucks. I'll miss you.

Here is the answer to your question.

It was fun to get to know more about you Sunny.

My blogroll has started to really decline this past year. I guess that just means that you've all moved on to bigger and better things, and for that I can lay no fault.

Those of you that started writing about your real life and all the experiences about your family and their times certainly do face the same decisions. Do you keep at it, exposing your family or not... Tough call, but it is yours to make.

I'll miss ya, but if I'm ever in that part of the world, I may even treat you to some monkey poop coffee. ;)

I'm starting to feel weird already about writing about my older daughter who's 7. That said, like you, I kind of dig getting free stuff to review for the family and I'm glad I set up a separate site for that.

I'm not ready to hang up blogging, but have started writing some more general posts about things we've done in our area so it's more localized.

I totally understand!

p.s. I know I've read about services that will print and bind your blogs...not sure how pricey they are, though!

I have been impressed, since discovering your blog, that you have managed to be consistent about your writing - on top of caring for home, husband, and four kids, and all of the other quadrillion dozen career thangs that you juggle so well.
I agree with Jenni: I think facebook and twitter have replaced blogging in that they fulfill a lot of social needs that used to be taken care of by blog reading and comments.
(I, too, have been thinking about retiring the blog, but I am further away from that day than you are).

I used Blurb (blurb.com) to make a book when I retired the blog I was keeping for my youngest. It's a hardcover book with all of the blog posts. It is such an awesome keepsake. My son loves it. The other kid wish I had one for them (but blogging wasn't really around when they were born). The software was easy to use and although I can't remember how much I paid for it, I don't remember it being too bad.
